Jessica Cressen is the 2014 Megaloser WINNER!
I’ve struggled with body image and weight issues for as long as I can remember. More recently, in college, being surrounded by size 00 girls who appeared to maintain their idealized physique seamlessly, I struggled with an eating disorder and lost a significant amount of weight in a very short period of time.
But, starvation isn’t maintainable and I eventually gained back all of the weight I had lost. I felt as though I had tried everything– running, elliptical, swimming, even hiring a personal trainer– but nothing was getting me to where I wanted to be. At the time I joined The Megacycle, I was struggling with a very traumatic break-up that put me in a deep state of depression.
The man who broke my heart used to always say, “You can never be happy with someone else until you are happy with yourself.” I decided to take this smart piece of advice from this not-so-smart person and figure out a way to learn to love myself.
On a beautiful Saturday morning last October, my mom took me to The Megacycle to inquire about signing up. After ONE class, I was hooked! I fell in love with the people, the challenge, and that feeling of accomplishment that you get after every single ride.
I ended up losing 18 pounds from my first ride to the start of the contest in January 2014, and another 31 pounds during the contest. Over those five months, not only was my body changing, but so was the rest of me. I became happier, more confident, more outgoing– I was learning to love myself.
I am forever grateful to Megan and my Megacycle family for helping me turn my life around— making me a healthier and happier person.
